Zimbabwean
Market
Tubers,
cabbages, tomatoes
In the market stall
Brazen round potatoes
A kingfisher calls
"World's view" and the Matopos
Huge rocks, granite stone
Murals in Cyrene chapel
Granite caves in Augur lone
Not unlike a prairie
Two elephants frolic
The zebra's fleece hairy
Is somewhat symbolic?
And bee-eaters perch
On the staid buffalo
A serpent unwinds
In the valley below
Maize cobs, drying sheaves
Women grinding, wet leaves
Peach skies
The sun's last vague glimmer
Another day dies
And sadza pots simmer
Olive waters splash
The leopard is yawning
Then suddenly he snarls
I'm desperate for morning
But the giraffe is so mellow
In sunset gold yellow
And somewhat relieved
The soft air I breathe -

Biography
I
am a Zimbabwean published poet, freelance writer and BA literature
student. Of course, I enjoy reading and writing poetry, however,
another interest of mine lies in compiling short advertisements.
I enjoy the challenge of trying to come up with something
concise yet witty. I began writing poetry in 1987, have appeared
in some local (Zimbabwean) magazines as well as two Anthologies
in the US. I am thirty two years of age and hope to embark
on another degree.
